The first thing you must know is that you will need about 10% more wooden floor panels, planks or parquet blocks than the actual size of the floor is. The reason for this is very simple - some of the panels and planks will have to be cut because there are lots of pipes, corners and other hard-to-reach-places where fitting complete planks will simply won't do.
Also, it is the case that the tongue ends as well as the grooves will need to be removed if you'd like to use the cut panels to fit all the room spaces. As a result, it is necessary to buy more flooring panels than is needed or to buy the smaller amount. The smaller amount is required if the room you want to fit the floor in is perfectly square. However, if there are some windows, a fireplace or closets you will have to order a bigger amount than the actual floor area.
The same rules apply, of course, to all types of wooden floors including hardwood flooring, engineered floors and parquets.
